By Frank J. Connor of Glen Rock, NJ.

In a dystopian future, detective Paul Brown comes across a ridiculous man in tweed, preaching to a flock of pigeons, who introduces him to life the way it was meant to be lived.

Paul is a detective charged with the return of two 17-year-old boys who have run away from home. Over the course of three days, tweed-wearing Ambrose guides Paul over one-hundred miles on foot from New York City to a small town where the young men place their hope. During the walk, Paul observes the destructive impact of his world’s ideology, contrasted with the meaning and joy that characterizes his destination.

The Ridiculous Man by Frank J. Connor grapples with the struggle between progress and tradition in an effort to understand what gives life meaning. This story shows the sanity and importance of a way of life that the modern world has come to view as ridiculous.

Thought provoking, deeply moving, and encouraging!

Our world is off track. I think we all know and can feel it. We don't understand why we feel this way or what could help. This amazing novel offers a glimpse into the reasons and provokes thoughts that may lead to the solution. Profound ideas are presented in the form of a simple story told with great imagery and pace. It is the story of a journey, but also of a transformation along the way, during which truth is revealed, and characters undergo change. As with all art, each reader will decide what this story means to them. For me, it spoke to how much we need community and connection to God. The world, in its current state, mocks both of these as "ridiculous". People who honor these are demeaned, while those who focus on self and worldly pursuits (power, pleasure, wealth, honor) are praised. Are we being conformed to the world and these conclusions? Or do we have the courage to follow the voice of our conscience which leads us in the direction of good, in spite of the world's present state? Our happiness depends on this choice, and this wonderful book encourages us to choose well.
